John ffitch was born after WWII and partially educated at an East
Anglian university in the sixties, and despite long hair and beard,
was never a hippie. For thirty years he has been as an academic
mathematician/computer scientist, and for most of that time as
Professor of Software Engineering at Bath, a subject about which he
knows little. His main interests have been Astronomy, Symbolic
Computing, but he has also dabbled widely; tank warfare, Latin poetry,
Arabic linguistics, compilers, and company management, all with some
lack of success. Oddly he won the Adams Prize for Mathematics in the
1970s and was appointed as Adjunct Professor of Music at NUI Maynooth in 2011.
