Yorkshire-born John ffitch was partially educated at an East Anglian university in the sixties, and despite long hair and beard, was never a hippie. For forty years he was been an academic mathematician/computer scientist, mainly as Professor of Software Engineering at Bath, a subject about which he knows little. His main interests have been Astronomy, Gravity Waves & Cosmology, and Symbolic Computing, but he has also dabbled widely; LISP, tank warfare, parallelism, Latin poetry, Arabic linguistics, compilers, and company management, all with some lack of success.
He is currently Adjunct Professor in the Department of Music, NUIM and a Visiting Professor in Computer Science in Bath.
Oddly he won the Adams Prize for Mathematics in the 1970s.
